It felt so weird being back in Mossdeep after a length of time. After the strange shit that had gone down here previously, he had made up his mind to steer clear of the area—even though it was the closest that the region had to reaching space flight.[break][break]

Strangely enough, business went on as usual in the Mossdeep Space Center, and he didn’t know when the next launch was going to be. He’d been in the tourist’s area of the place a few times, but now that the staff knew he was a Gym Leader he could basically prowl into the deeper parts of the place—well, at least that was what he knew last time he checked.[break][break]

He wondered if things were ever going to calm down because of the way the strange beasts were appearing all around the region. It was quite disconcerting to say the least.[break][break]

For today, though, he wasn’t a Gym Leader here on business. He was just here for a visit, wondering if he could subtly find more clues regarding that strange occurrence he’d bore witness too almost half a year ago.[break][break]

He wasn’t expecting to run into someone very familiar, though…

In the massive main lobby of the space center, there was a set of swing doors off to the side that lead to a wide balcony overlooking one of the launch pads. Out in the splendor of the island sunshine, a pink-haired girl enjoyed a boba as she leaned against the railing and chatted with a friend from work. The Delcatty that had been sitting patiently beside her this whole time, however, had grown increasingly bored. It wasn't until she spotted someone familiar past the polished glass of the swing doors that the cat finally got up. With a rich stretch and a flick of her tail, Papaya sauntered over to the doors and pawed it open.

Nobody seemed to notice or care as she confidently made her way towards the young man across the lobby. And, when she finally reached him, the Delcatty unabashedly rubbed herself against the side of his leg and snaked her way between them as she purred. From the moment she had caught his scent on her nostrils, she knew who it was. But she hadn't seen Alexei since she was a Skitty! He probably wouldn't even recognize her... right?

Regardless, Papaya froze when suddenly she caught the scent of something else... a wild Pokémon. Perhaps two? She looked around to see where they could be. In the rafters above, perhaps? Or maybe prowling the floor in plain sight. She could tell they were wild because they smelled dirty. And dirty was the worst smell of all!

He belatedly remembered that he had entered from the top floor of the Space Center when shit had gone down previously, and sighed. Of course he wasn’t going to be able to find anything around this part of the building, this was where most tourists were allowed access—he remembered climbing down some emergency stairs before finding scientists doing some rather unscrupulous…things.[break][break]

That was back then. This was the now.[break][break]

Looking around idly, he wondered if he could poke around without being disturbed by the other staff members who were busy running around holding their clipboards and junk. Just as he was about to head towards the door that was ‘League-only’ access, he felt something brush against his ankles. Looking down, his eyes crinkled in confusion.[break][break]

Huh…wha? He thought, looking at the Pokémon that was literally curling itself around his right leg and purring nonstop. Thankfully, it wasn’t a Purrloin or any of its evolutionary line, but still…[break][break]

What was up with this Pokémon, how did it know him?[break][break]

“Uhh,” he began, embarrassed as he looked around, “Does… does anyone own this Delcatty?” he inquired, hoping that someone, hell, anyone would answer.[break][break]

It wasn’t every day that any old random Pokémon would approach him and purr non-stop. Normally anything that he encountered would literally fling themselves at him and try to take a bite out of him. Eep.

The glass door to the balcony outside suddenly swung open, followed by a series of dainty footsteps across the polished floor that were suddenly cut short.

"Papaya, what did I tell you about just wanderi—" Adelaide froze when she saw him. In the magazine she'd read, she really couldn't tell if it had been him. Maybe they'd applied too much make-up for the interview? But here, in person, there was no doubt about it. He'd grown a bit taller... and his hair was a little different. But it was him. It was her brother Alexei. After all this time, she—

Ran across the room like a bat out of hell and clamped onto him with a hug. "BIG BROOOOTHER!!"

Whether or not Alexei staggered backward, Delcatty would make a face and swiftly clear out of the way. Her trainer wasn't always so obnoxious, but when she was— yikes.

Alexei might have had more trouble figuring out it was her than vice-versa, considering she'd dyed her hair from blonde to pink and cut it half as short. But her naturally amethyst eyes were a dead giveaway, at least! Regardless, she wouldn't let him go and would continue cuddling him until he told her not to. It had been far too long.

He hadn’t heard the name ‘Papaya’ in years. Hell, it was actually more than a decade or so when he last heard that moniker.[break][break]

Thieving little Skitty who ran off with the last slice of the tropical fruit that their mama had brought home one time, and the only evidence was a set of dainty, if somewhat sticky little paw prints that pranced around the table before suddenly leaping down to the floor and bolting.[break][break]

It took him another few moments to register the voice that had literally cut across the space before a literal blur launched itself at him, making him lose his balance.[break][break]

“Wha—?” he continued, flustered as he looked down at the pink-haired young lady. He knew only one person in all of the world who called a Pokémon ‘Papaya’, and his mind was reeling from the shock.[break][break]

Wait—how—are you—?! He thought, almost losing his balance but managing to right himself.[break][break]

“Wait, wait a second—Addy?” he breathed out, hoping that his guess was right. He had forgotten how much of a serial cuddler his younger sister was. After all those years, who knew that they were going to meet all the way out here, in another region far away from home?![break][break]

“That—that’s Papaya now?” he inquired, looking over to where the Delcatty had distanced herself. He wasn’t sure if that was a look of disdain on the Pokémon’s face.

Pleased to realize that Alexei recognized her, Addy broke away from the hug to look up at him with an endearing set of amethyst eyes. "Yes!" She happily replied, releasing him from the grip of her arms to hold her hands behind her back. "Was my voice a dead giveaway? It hasn't changed much." She giggled. Since Alexei had last seen her, Adelaide's vocabulary had certainly skyrocketed, which made her sound more mature. But the inflections in her voice were, for the most part, unchanged.

As Papaya ignored the two, wholly invested in the trail of a scent she discovered, Addy turned to regard their family pet with a smile when Alexei asked if that was the very same cat. "Yup! She evolved into Delcatty when we stumbled across a moon stone in Fula City's forest. She thinks she's the best thing since sliced bread now. So picky about EVERYTHING." She laughed.

“Yep, that’s right, your voice was the giveaway—although,” he dropped off, taking a few steps back in order to get a closer look at her, “…since when did you dye your hair pink? I could remember the last time… your hair was much longer, and blonde,” he added a few moments later.[break][break]

Well, it was to be expected after all. He was gone for at least a decade—if not more—from their family home. So of course he’d lost track of things, especially with his siblings. How was their older sister, he wondered?[break][break]

“Look at Papaya, she’s looking at you like you’ve gone off your rocker,” he continued with a grin on his face, looking over to where the Delcatty was now making a face at him.[break][break]

“Fula… truth be told I haven’t heard of that city. Enlighten me? What have you been doing these past few years?” he asked, wondering if she would humor him. He had only been to two regions after all—Unova, the region of their birth, and Hoenn, the region where he lived now.[break][break]

Had it really been so long since he first arrived in Slateport all those years ago? It felt much longer than that, to be honest.

Adelaide giggled when Alexei finally noticed, stepping backwards herself as a means of presenting her entire new look: a buttoned-up white 'boyfriend' shirt with a loose-fitting striped pink tie, a khaki knife pleated skirt, black tights, and black shoes with a golden buckle. She fancied herself a master of the 'cute but professional' look. With one hand behind her back and the other raised to twirl a strand of her pink hair around her finger, she listened as her brother recalled her days as a ditzy blonde.

And, yes. She had been ditzy.

She could admit that now.

"I had to change it up, of course," Adelaide smiled. "I'm not the same little girl you once knew, y'know!"

When he mentioned Papaya, Addy paused from her hair twirling and turned towards the cat. Sassy as ever, that one. There were certainly some stories she could tell, but of course she was more eager to go on about what she'd been doing the last several years in Fula City! She simply couldn't believe Alexei had never heard of it. The sooner she filled him in, though, the sooner he could tell her about what he'd been up to in Hoenn, though! She was super curious and was about to go on, but was interrupted when, suddenly, the sound of Papaya's growling grew.

It appeared they had visitors.

“Show me, then,” he began, the edge of his lips curling into a knowing grin. The sound of Papaya’s growling caught him off-guard for a few moments, before he looked up, before looking down and around—and seeing that they had company.[break][break]

“Oh, are you kidding me? Inside the Space Station?” he grumbled, groping around inside his jacket until he found the containment unit he was looking for. Popping it to full size, he then flicked it forward—while he was expecting to see either his Braviary or his Salamence emerge from the red stream of light… that was not going to be the case today.[break][break]

Instead, he had found his Ribombee’s Pokéball and it was Carina who emerged, yawning for a bit before looking around, confused.[break][break]

“Well…” he stammered for a few moments, before shrugging. “Better to be discreet. Carina! Take care of it, will you? I know someone who would want that Elgyem,” and with that she was off.[break][break]

Alexei then turned to look at her, before saying, “What? That was the random Pokéball I pulled out!”[break][break]

Over where the Elgyem was now looking around in confusion, it had a few moments to register that there was something purple headed its way—and foolishly enough it had opened its mouth and inhaled the purple Pollen Puff. Which… was a bad idea, because the purple Pollen Puffs were the poisonous kind![break][break]

As the Elgyem prepared to Teleport away from wherever the purple ‘treats’ were coming from, the Ribombee then let loose with a Bug Buzz attack, the loud discordant humming ripping through the space and forcing it to stop. Not to be outdone, the Elgyem then began to lob rainbow-colored orbs of Psychic energy through the air.[break][break]

The Ribombee was faster, though. More purple Pollen Puffs came flying from out of seemingly nowhere, pelting the Psychic-type in the face and eventually going down under the sheer number of them all.[break][break]

“Whoops,” was all Alexei had to say as he dropped an empty Pokéball atop the Elgyem’s head.

Wild pokémon?! In a place like this?! Adelaide couldn't fathom why! Back in Fula City this sort of thing NEVER happened in active places of business! Her brother seemed to agree, but was a lot quicker at accepting the situation and reacting to it. Adelaide was briefly distracted by the absolutely adorable Ribombee that had emerged, but snapped out of it when it attacked the Elgyem.

Addy shot her brother a narrow-eyed look. "You should really be more organized then, big bro. Poor thing!" Turning to Papaya and the fire monkey that taunted her, however, the pink-haired female pointed at their target and issued a command. "Let's help Carina out, Papaya! Feint Attack!" She spoke, watching as her Delcatty leapt towards her target, swerved beneath its attack, and struck it from behind with a sharp claw against the butt.

It ran off quickly afterwards, hehe!

“I prefer my stuff to be just the right amount of chaotic, you know,” he retorted in his defense. The Ribombee then flew over to where the Pokéball had fallen, picking it up and dropping it in his outstretched hand. “Thanks, Carina,” he continued as Carina then spun them several yellow Pollen Puffs to share.[break][break]

Taking one of the sticky yellow treats, he then offered the other one to his ditzy sister, who had driven off the Pan… wait, there were so many monkeys back home he frequently got them mixed up. “Nice, I didn’t know Papaya could fight,” he continued as the Delcatty made quick work of the fire monkey.[break][break]

What, there were three of them, and he could never get their names straight![break][break]

“Oh, you haven’t seen my main ones yet, have you…” he mused, rummaging around in his pocket. Just then, a loud blaring noise caught him off-guard, causing him to look up. Was there a break-in?![break][break]

Thankfully, it was just… what the hell?[break][break]

“How did that end up inside here?” he exclaimed, blinking at the Claydol. He remembered that there was someone looking for one of these, and figured—why not show her what he was actually capable of? Pulling out the battered-looking Moon Ball, he then chucked it forward, revealing his Salamence.[break][break]

“Say hello to Gabriel, my Salamence,” he said with a grin on his face as the Claydol then began to spin before firing off a… holy hell balls, what the fuck?![break][break]

“A Hyper Beam, right in here? Protect!” he called out, before the Salamence roared in an Intimidating fashion before quickly conjuring up a protective barrier before the beam of light could slam into them and knock them off their feet. Thankfully, the barrier held before the attack dissipated.[break][break]

“That was stupid dangerous, how did this get in here?” he inquired, quickly looking around. The sounds of screaming were not lost on him—he had to get this one out of the way, and fast. “Subdue it! Do what you have to!”[break][break]

With that the Salamence was allowed free reign, flashing its most hideous moue of a Scary Face in the Claydol’s direction. Caught in the aftermath of the Hyper Beam, it then approached the Claydol before lashing out with a sudden burst of draconic energy—a Dragon Claw![break][break]

“Keep it down!” he continued, fishing out another Pokéball. Before the Claydol could wink out of existence with Teleport, he threw another Pokéball at it.[break][break]

No more scaring the people in the Space Center!

After she finished eating one of the tasty pollen puffs she'd been offered, Adelaide nods her head with a grin and raises her arm, flexing invisible muscles she didn't actually have. "Fula City's high altitude has been good to us!" She offers in explanation, dropping that arm when he mentions not having shown her his main pokémon.

Just then, however, a Galarian Mr. Mime made one of the large window panels disappear and tapped his way inside. Alexei hadn't seen it, but she certainly had!

"Holy moly!" She squealed in raw shock and awe after her brother had released the large dragon indoors

Though she spared a moment to awe at his Salamence and the Claydol that had somehow entered the area, however, Adelaide was soon laser-focused on the tap-dancing mime as Papaya ran over to stand in front of her protectively once more. "Lexy, don't blow up the Space Center, okay?! I got the Mr. Mime!" She called out, pointing at the target in question as it issued a Rapid Spin towards their pet Delcatty. "Papaya, Copycat!"

A strange multi-colored aura surrounded the Delcatty. Then, in an even stranger display, it got up on two feet before quickly beginning to spin in the direction of the spinning Mr. Mime. By the time they made contact, the two were small tornadoes of color that bounced off of each other before skidding towards the ground. Less in a shock than her opponent, however, Papaya was quick to get up on all fours again as Adelaide issued her next move.

"Now Faint Attack!" She added, watching as the cat sprinted towards the dazed Mr. Mime before striking it with an unpredictable claw attack. By the time it raised its lower half from the ground again, groaning, it was soon struck by a pokéball the pink-haired lass had thrown.
